Veronica graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of Warwick in 2015. She was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore in 2017.
Veronica’s practice is focused on commercial litigation and arbitration. She has wide-ranging experience in disputes arising out of insolvency and restructuring, banking and finance, breach of contract, employment, as well as debt recovery. She has appeared as counsel not only in the Singapore High Court, but also in international arbitrations before the SIAC, ICC, ICDR-AAA and FOSFA. In recent years, she has also developed a practice in commodities and dry shipping work, with a focus on charterparty and bill of lading disputes.
On the advisory front, Veronica regularly advises clients on employment and licensing matters and corporate insolvency and restructuring.
Veronica is a volunteer with the Catholic Lawyers’ Guild Pro Bono Legal Clinic.
Work Highlights
Counsel for an established Japanese hospital/medical group in its an international financial institution. Successfully set aside a disputed valuation report that gave rise to the claim sum of JPY 1.11 billion. Judgment reported in Nishiki Holdings Pte Ltd and others v Sankaty European Investments Sarl and others [2021] SGHC 286.
Counsel for a high net-worth individual and her holding companies defending an action by a Japanese government-linked entity for claims in unjust enrichment, constructive trust and tracing arising out of fraudulent transactions committed by a co-defendant in Japan. Various reported interlocutory decisions in [2023] SGHC 100 and [2024] SGHC 63.
Counsel for a Swiss bank in Singapore High Court proceedings against a commodities trading company for claims in fraudulent misrepresentation and unjust enrichment arising out of the collapse of prominent oil trading company, Zenrock. Reported judgment in [2024] SGHC 145.
Counsel for a South Korean venture capitalist in disputes arising out of the collapse of a notable Singapore grocery delivery start up. Reported decision in [2021] SGHC 166.
Counsel for Danish shipowners defending misdelivery claims by financial institutions holding bills of lading. Reported decision in [2022] SGHC 242.
Counsel for an entrepreneur and her group of companies in the automobile industry defending claims of dishonest assistance arising out of her husband’s alleged breach of fiduciary duties. A reported decision on the novel issue of marital privilege was issued in the course of proceedings – see Systematic Airconditioning Pte Ltd v Ho Seng Ken and others [2023] SGHC 10.
Acting for and advising the liquidators of Hin Leong Trading (Pte.) Ltd on shipping and commodities issues, as well as various interpleader proceedings
Counsel for a European shipping group for claims against a bunker supplier arising out of contaminated fuel.
Counsel for construction and property development group in various disputes involving issues of moneylending, constructive trusts, conspiracy and breach of shareholder agreements.
Counsel for a Southeast Asian telecommunications provider in an arbitration arising out of services and supplies provided by a global telecommunications company in Cambodia.
